How to make the most of your time as a student in Wolverhampton
Heading to Wolverhampton to start your university career? If so, there’s a lot to consider, such as knowing which campus you will actually be studying at. You will also be wanting to know what are the local bars, clubs and other sites you want to check out, as well the various options there are for student accommodation. Wolverhampton is a brilliant city to explore on many levels, it can seem a little bit less appealing than some of the more well known university cities, so hopefully this small guide can put your mind at ease that there will still be plenty to do in this midlands city.
Many bars and clubs are starting to turn their attention to the student community in Wolverhampton. Many venues have specific student nights out, which can change regularly, so make sure to scout out for yourself, which places have what offers on which days. Clubs specifically, there’s Popworld for all your cheesy pop needs, Planet for your heavy and alt rock, and Faces for when you want to venture into the world of drum n bass.
When it comes to nights out though, make sure to not limit yourself to Wolverhampton. As Birmingham, the UK’s largest city is easily accessible by several types of public transport and has a plethora of different venues that can accommodate anyone’s musical palette. If you can get a group of you together to get a taxi back, it is about the same price as the train, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to stay out too late. Birmingham also has a larger, more established student scene, therefore it is often easier to find nights out tailored toward students. Birmingham also has a lot to offer apart from nightlife. The bullring is a must for any shopping enthusiast whose student loan burning a hole in their pocket. As well as a lot of cultural and historic spots worth checking out for yourself.
If you’re a fan of football, then Wolverhampton is the right place for you. Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) are currently enjoying quite an impressive surprising run in the premier league, beating both Chelsea and Tottenham already this season! The premier league can be a bit expensive to go watch, so if you don’t fancy splashing out the big bucks just to get the football atmosphere, then I recommend checking out Walsall FC, who are currently in league one and as a result the tickets are a lot more reasonably priced.
Enjoy exploring Wolverhampton, and finding your own favourite spots, but don’t be scared to venture further afield if you cannot quite find the right thing for you in Wolverhampton, there’s heaps going on, not just in Birmingham, but in other areas, from things such as the black country museum or exploring towns like Shrewsbury, all can be reached by public transport.
