Thinking About Quitting, Now What?
There comes a time in our lives we start thinking about quitting one job and moving on to something better. Sometimes it’s because we have lost our passion or don’t like the work environment, and many reasons in between. That’s life, and while most of us work, not all of us will stay with the same company throughout our entire working career. If you are thinking about quitting, here are some things to do and consider.
What Kind Of Job Is Next?
Before you quit, you must decide what job you are going to go into. Are you going to stick with your current career track and or leverage your current role to move up in a new company? Are you going to go in a new direction in another career pathway? What kind of role you want to take on is essential in deciding what’s next for you. Choosing an entirely new field may mean taking on coursework to gain new skills and education related to the field. You can even opt for special certification programs that can help as well.
Spruce Up Your Resume
After deciding what you want to do and adding to your skillset if your path requires it, it’s time to take out that resume. Drop any irrelevant experience from it. Chose keywords from the field you are in and make sure they are highlighted and at the forefront of your resume. If you have the time, tailor your resume specifically for the jobs you are applying for. This helps you stand out from the crowd. Be sure to add in a cover letter or CV if required.
Apply Apply Apply
Find quality employers that match your job needs. This goes beyond the job title and into the work culture, mission, products, etc. Be sure that what they have to offer you is equally as good as what you can offer them. Be sure to thoroughly vet and understand the role you are applying for. Also, don’t be afraid to apply for jobs that make you uncomfortable. Chances are you are qualified and can do it.
