Productive Activities That Don’t Cost Money

Sometimes it can feel like you have to spend money in order to be productive. However, there are actually so many different productive activities that don’t cost money at all. This list will get you started with ideas to stay busy, enjoy life, progress personally and professionally, and yet not spend money.

Start At The Library

I am a huge fan of the public library. If you don’t visit yours, then now is the time to start. At any public library you can:

  • Read books (hat tip to kidwealth.com – this is a great idea for cash strapped parents)
  • Check out free movies to watch
  • Check out free music to listen to
  • Use the Internet for free

At many free libraries, you can also attend a variety of different types of events for free. At the San Francisco Public Library, these include:

  • Classes and workshops to learn everything from business skills to crafting
  • Poetry readings and other book readings
  • Movie screenings
  • Children’s events
  • Lectures
  • Art exhibits

You might also be surprised to discover other productive activities that don’t cost money at your local library. For example, the man library here has an entire floor dedicated to small business services. You can learn all about starting and growing your own business from the material available there.

Find What’s Free In Your City

Every city has free events, activities, and places that you can visit. Many of these expand your awareness of the area’s history, culture, and natural beauty. Examples include:

  • Free days for locals at museums
  • Public gardens, trails, beaches and parks
  • Parades and other special events
